Description

The interaction between polypropylene (PP) and ethylene-propylene copolymers (EPR) having various propylene contents was investigated. Dynamic viscoelastic measurement showed that the glass transition temperature of the PP changed slightly with EPR content. Spin-lattice relaxation time (TIC) of EPR determined by 13C solid state NMR was divided into two components although neat EPR had one conponent. The results suggest that there exists some region in which the mobility of amorphous PP chains is affected by the interaction with EPR. The mobility change was more significant in the blend of EPR having a higher propylene content. The impact strength at low temperatures also depended on the propylene content of EPR. The interaction between PP and EPR thus seems to affect the impact strength of the blend as a result of a change in the chain mobility.
