抄録

Side-chain liquid crystal polymers (SCLCPs) with different side-chain terminal groups were synthesized by radical polymerization of methacrylate mesogenic monomers. Their thermal properties and orientational behavior were examined by polarizing microscopy, DSC, and X-ray diffraction measurements. SCLCPs had an ethanol terminal as an end group of the polymer backbone. Liquid-crystalline block copolymers were obtained by the reaction of SCLCPs and diisocyanate with polyethylene glycol (PEG) core. The liquid-crystalline properties of the block copolymers resembled those of SCLCPs. The introduction of PEG chains led to the generation of hydrophilicity of the liquid-crystalline block copolymers. The liquid-crystalline block copolymer mixed with PEG showed a nematic phase with schlieren texture.
