Description

Heat exchange characteristics of steel foundation piles used as ground heat exchangers were evaluated by heat extraction tests and the calculation methods were indicated. First, heat extraction tests were carried out in such a way that the inlet fluid temperature kept constant. As a result of these tests, the use of a double U-tube indirect heat exchanger made possible to obtain an equivalent heat extraction to direct circulating heat exchanger in the condition using a steel pile with a large diameter of 400mm since ten days passed from the start of the test. Next, the effective heat conductivity of the surrounding soil was evaluated as 1.5W/m/K in comparison calculated temperature variations returned from the ground heat exchanger with a measured one. The last, thermal resistances of each type of the heat exchanger were calculated. In addition, a calculation method of the heat transfer in the indirect heat exchange type steel pile was shown. The values calculated with the method were compared to the actual measurements. As a result, it was demonstrated that calculated temperature variations returned from the ground heat exchanger reproduced those of measured in the case where steel piles with both diameter 400mm and 165mm were used.
