Abstract

The population density of workers in an office space causes one of the dominant heat loads, and hence the precise information on the time series of workers' population density in an office space is important for determining the boundary conditions of building energy simulation. In this study, we developed a simplified and inexpensive measuring system for workers entering/leaving an office space and validated its performance through field measurements. The measuring system for entering/leaving a room consisted of a Doppler sensor (micro wave), I/F circuit, and a communication program. Field measurements were conducted in the laboratory room of Kyushu University. The measuring system based on a Doppler sensor was confirmed to comprehend the potential uncertainty for accumulated error, and a correction method by integrating the time series of CO_2 concentration data was also proposed and validated. Finally, the results of the measuring system newly developed in this study showed a reasonably good agreement with the measurement results of digital video-recorded data.
