Description

The purpose of this study is to clarify the definition and concept of Net Escape Velocity, conceptually proposed by Prof. Mats Sandberg, as an index for ventilation effectiveness in an indoor environment. We believe that the term and the basic concept of Net Escape Velocity was introduced by Prof. Mats Sandberg more than a decade earlier, but specific definition has not yet been presented. Net Escape Velocity shall have the dimension of velocity [m/s] and it must represent the efficiency of contaminant transport and dilution at a target point. From this point of view, the concept of Net Escape Velocity at a target point will be strongly related to the concept of Local Purging Flow Rate, which determines the average contaminant concentration at the local domain. Here, we consider and discuss the possible definition of Net Escape Velocity in relation to an enclosed indoor space, on the premise of CFD simulations.
