Abstract
The monthly energy consumption in the residential sector of nine cities in Kyushu and Okinawa regions were estimated by using statistical data on family income and expenditures and by using retail price surveys provided by the Statistical Bureau of Japan. By using the estimated values of energy consumption, the authors studied on the influence of the weather variables on the residential energy consumption. Based on the results of regression analyses, the authors presented simple models that use the monthly mean air temperature as input data for predicting monthly electricity and gas consumption per household. Additionally the authors studied on the influence of population density on the gas consumption and presented a multi-regression model of gas consumption rate, which uses the monthly mean air temperature and population density as explanatory variables.
