Abstract
Industrie 4.0 is the keyword for the transition to networked digital production systems enabled by information and communication technology. Thus, the present article questions the role of control system technologies in such future systems. By highlighting some open questions, it is obvious that control system technologies will still play a major role. Only holisitic approaches, from the field to the enterprise level, will enable to unlock the full potential promised by Industrie 4.0. This implies changes, to the focus of control system technologies but does not replace them.
