An on-the-spot investigation was conducted to find dietetic problems in girl students and to get suggestions for nutritional guidance.
1) As subjects of this investigation, 304 girl students of this college who lived in Nagoya with their parents were selected by random sampling.
2) The nutrient intake, caloric consumption, and physical condition of the girls were investigated in June 1978 and compared with those in June 1974. Besides, questions were asked about their dietetic and health life in June and November and the answers were compared with the results of the National Nutrition Survey and National Health Survey.
3) Their diets were found to be lacking in such foods as potatos, beans, greens, and other vegetables. Lacking nutrients were vitamins A and B2, and calcium. Moreover, intake of nutrients was unbalanced.
The questionnaire on dietetic life revealed that 32.2% of the girls skipped breakfast in June and 25.9% in November, and that they were apt to consume too much soft drinks. According to the questionnaire on health life, 21.5% of the girls were anemic, 29.9% constipated, and 29.8% felt tired and dull in November. Statistically significant differences were noted between the anemic girls and energy intake, and between the anemic girls and the girls who skipped breakfast.
Thus, there are many problems involving nutrient intake of the girl students. The necessity of nutritional advice is keenly felt.
