From December 15 to 17 in 1975, the writers investigated the circumstances of the nutrient intakes of families of 70 households in which school children lived with their families in Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture. From the results of the survey, the following facts were elucidated.
(1) In this survey the nutrient intakes except vitamin B1, Fe and fat of households in Matsuyama were greater than those given in the National Nutrition Survey in 1974. Concerning energy, protein, fat, vitamins A and B2, significant differences were recognized between these two surveys. However, large differences were found in the nutritional circumstances among each household.
(2) Compared with the average values of the dietary allowance, the values of nutrient intakes in this survey were superior in energy, protein, Fe and vitamin C and poor in Ca. Moreover, intakes of vitamins A, B1 and B2 were insufficient because they are frequently destroyed in the process of cooking. The ratio of cereals to calories showed the value of 56.7 per cent and that of animal protein to total protein was 51.2 per cent.
(3) In comparison with the results of the National Nutrition Survey in 1974, the foods such as cereals, pulses, green and yellow vegetables, fish and shell fish, meats and eggs were taken abundantly and sugars, confectionery, fats and oils, fruits, other vegetables and milks were poor.
