The author has previously reported that preference of vegetables had high correlation with the mental and physical health status of children. Successive investigations on the preference of vegetables of 120 individuals of 18 to 19 year-old girls using the CMI (Cornell Medical Index) were conducted. A hedonic scale for measuring food preference translated by the author was used, and this scale showed a high correlation with the FACT scale for measuring food acceptance translated by Yoshikawa.
The results are summarized as follows:
1) A dislike for vegetables showed a high correlation with subjective physical symptoms. That is to say those who had more complaints regarding physical symptoms had an inclination to dislike vegetables.
2) Preference of vegetables and physical health status showed a high correlation between each other. Constipation seemed to be one of the causes.
3) Preference of vegetables and mental health status did not show much correlation.
The above mentioned results showed that concerning 18 to 19 year-old girls, food preference did not have much relation to psychological factors, but on the other hand, it was distinctively related to physiological factors.
