Description
The economical status of Liquid Metal Fast Breeder Reactor (LMFBR) which is the succession of Light Water Reactor (LWR) from a view-point of beneficial utilization of the uranium resource is not still competitive with those of LWR, thus we need further efforts to reduce the cost for the plant construction and for the fuel recycling. On the other hand, the requirement for the burning or incinerating the TRU nuclides (long-life radioactivities) which are the products from the operations of LWRs has also been raised. Recently, in accordance with the foregoing needs the studies of Actinide Recycle Fast Reactor (ARFR), a concept of the power generation/TRU incineration systems, are progressing. In this paper the emphasis is on the proposal of the molten chloride salt fuel (MCSF) option for the power generation/TRU incineration systems. The MCSF system has the potential for leading us to a great deal of simplification for the fuel recycling, thus contributing to the solution of the major remaining problems for the ARFR (or LMFBR) option.
