Description
Variation of pH, EC, water soluble phenolic substance and four kinds of phenolic acids during the humification process of rice straw compost were determined. And the bioassay on the water extracts of each humification process composts was carried out. The following results were obtained. (1) Amount of water soluble phenolic substance was increased 2 weeks after loading, and it showed 1.30 g kg^<-1> dry weight. But it was decreased after that and showed 0.79 g kg^<-1> dry weight after 12 weeks. (2) p-Coumaric acid>ferulic acid>vanillic acid>p-hydroxybenzoic acid were determined by gas chromatography. And the order of existence was according to the sign of inequality. All of the phenolic acids were decreased according to the humification process with the exceptions of the increase tendencies on p-coumaric acid 4 weeks, and ferulic acids 4-6 weeks after loading. (3) The plot of the extract of 10 parts water to g dry weight (original plot) , the plots of diluted 10 and 100 times with water of original plot were tested by the bioassay of rice seedling. Root length and α-naphthylamine oxidation activity of root were depressed on original plot, but they were increased as longer humification period and diluted plots. (4) Correlation coefficient between root length and the content of water soluble phenolic substance showed higher negative value compared with that of pH, EC and N contents in water extract.
