Description

Bound rubbers in IR, BR, SBR and in blends of IR/BR and IR/SBR were formed with various silicas by means of the solution masterbatch method and subsequently by the openemill mixing. The adsorption energy of the bound rubber in benzene solution is estimated at about1kcal/mol and is in the order of IR>BR>SBR.When the individual masterbatch was masticated by the openemill, the bound rubber decreased in IR and increased in BR and SBR with the mixing time.Addition of DPPH gave rise to a decrease of the bound rubber in IR.In the case of silica coupling with silan, the bound rubber decreased in BR and SBR.When BR or SBR was mixed with IR masterbatch by the openemill, the bound rubber was composed of IR component only as a result of difference in their viscosity. When IR was blended with either BR or SBR masterbatch, the bound rubber was composed of both components, the ratio of which depended on the surface area and the oil adsorption of silica. When the preblends of IR and BR were mixed, IR component decreased and BR one increased with the mixing time.
