抄録

Commercial SBR samples of various molecular weights were masticated on an open mill by passing through a relatively narrow slit betwen the two rolls.<br>The decrease in the average molecular weight, M, of the sample caused by the mastication could be approximated by<br>M=(M0-M∞)e-αN+M∞, <br>where M0 and M∞ are the initial and the final molecular weights of the sample, respectively, and α is a rate constant independent of the number of times of passing, N. The constants α and M∞ were both found to be independent of M0.<br>The mechanical behavior of the masticated samples on various grades were tested in a Mooney viscometer and it was found that the effects of mastication on the mechanical data thus obtained could be attributed primarily to the decrease in the average molecular weight of the sample
