Description

The effect of diffusion of oxygen on the film thickness of a sample of rubber vulcanizate in chemorheological studies has not been studied so far.
The purpose of the present work is to derive an equation which represents the relation between the rate of chain scission. qav. and the film thickness 2l in the steady state of diffusion and oxidation reaction.
In conclusion, the next equation (1) has been derived which indicates the relation between qav. and 2l.qav·l=Sc0√Dk/ε·tanh(0√k/D·l)(1)
Furthermore, an equation (2) which represents the distribution of oxygen concentrations in the film thickness has been derived.c=Sc0cosh(√k/D·x)/cosh(0√k/D·l)(2)
Here, D: diffusion constant, k: first order rate constant of oxygen consumption, ε: scission efficiency of polymer chains, S: solubility coefficient, C: oxygen concentration, C: oxygen concentration in the air.
