Abstract

Various problems about the mixing of pale crepe and guttapercha as cis- and trans-isomers of natural rubber are studied. Under various mixing ratios of weight such as 100/0, 75/25, 50/50, 25/75 and 0/100, mixing of polymers is conducted by using three methods, i.e., blending polymers by roll mill, blending filler-compounded stocks and blending polymers by coprecipitation in the solution. for these blended rubbers, compounded rubbers and vulcanized rubbers, measurements of solution viscosity, Mooney plasticity, X-rayrefraction, phase separation in solution, physical property and swelling in benzene are conducted. Also, bychanging kinds of fillers in compounds, the effect upon the blending of polymers is examined. the following results are obtained.<br>The difference of blending state by mixing methods were not clearly recognized. Since all of specimens are natural rubbers and contain impurities or low molecular components in addition to polymers, the experiments about blended states are very difficult. Especially, mixing ratios of rubbers obtained by solution method, roll mill method and method of blending filler-compounded stocks can′t be accurately measured. Also, there is a marked difference of masticating effect between pale crepe and guttapercha. Therefore, no satisfactory linearity between plasticity and mixing ratio is observed. However, from electro-microscopic observations, the existence of micro-heterogeneous dispersion is found. On the other hand, for specific values on unvulcanized state, linear additivity according to the change of mixing ratio is observed. About vulcanized rubber, linear relationship between static physical characteristics and mixing ratio is not obsrveed. lso, it is found that mixing of compounded rubbers is easier than that of raw rubbers.
