抄録

The present paper describes about determination of hydroperoxide in rubber, correlation between molecular weight of rubber and the hydroperoxide, and polymerization of styrene caused by the hydroperoxide.<br>Mastication of rubber was carried out in the range of temperature from 30°C to 170°C. The concentration of detected hydroperoxide in rubber changed largely according to mastication temperature. The highest amount of the hydroperoxide was found to be both at 30°C and at 140°C. It was assumed that total hydroperoxide [PO] consist of hydroperoxide consumed for rubber degradation [S-PO] and that remained and detected in rubber by analysis [I-PO]. As the results, it was found that the concentration of [I-PO] was nearly zero with the lapse of time of mastication at mastication temperature i.e. 170°C, while number of scission of rubber molecule increased. It was also found that [I-PO] increased with the lapse of time of mastication at room temperature and both [I-PO] and number of scission increased with the time at 140°C.<br>It was also found that as the hydroperoxide increased, polymerization of styrene was accelerated.<br>By means of ultrared absorption spectrum, absorption bands of carbonyl and that of hydroxide were recognized over 100°C in mastication temperature.
