Description

To observe fundamental physical properties of the blending effect of polymer latexes, the mechanica l properties of blended latex films consisting of two types of composite polymer latexes, such as a two-layer coma posite latex having poly (methyl methacrylate) as a core portion and poly (ethyl-acrylate) as a shell portion, and a methyl methacrylate-ethyl acrylate copolymer latex are investigated.<BR>The following results are obtained:(1) even in case of blended latex films being formed by means of emulsion blending process with a composition ratio 50/50 by weight of polymethyl (methacrylate) and poly-(ethyl acrylate), the latex films were transparent and homogeneous only when on ethyl acrylate component rich copolymer latex was blended with other latexes;(2) in case of the blended films having total composition ratios 30/70 and/or 20/80 poly (methyl methacrylate) and poly (ethyl acrylate), properties of the films formed by blending equal amounts of two kinds of emulsion latexes were transparent and soft, and the blended latex films had much higher tensile strength and tenacity than a copolymer or two-layer latex film.
