Abstract

The reaction mechanism involving diphenylmethane (DPM), sulfur and various metal mercaptides of MBT was made clear in the previous paper. In the present paper various metal butyrates were prepared. The reaction involving DPM, sulfur, MBT and various metal butyrates was investigated by the method of organic chemistry. The reaction mechanism was found to be the same as for zinc butyrate. Theoretical equations for MBT concentration and for metal sulfides formation were derived from the reaction mechanism at the stationary state. These equations interpreted the experimental results very well. On the basis of the results the efficiency of various metal butyrates as an activator was indicated as follows.
Pb, Cu>Zn>Co, Ni>Cd>Hg
On the other hand, Ca butyrate was found to have no such an effect.
