Plasticizing and thermal degradation mechanism in the PVC-plasticizer-stabilizer system was analized by means of Brabender′s Plastograph.<br>In the plasticizing process the stationary milling power and plasticizing time, which had been calculated from the plasticizing curve (milling power-time curve), were measured in the different stabilizer systems under the controlled condition of PVC-plasticizer system and milling performance. In addition, the plasticizing time was compared with the figures obtained from the actual milling-roll operations and the stationary milling power with the flow-tester data. It has therefore been proved that both plasticizing time and stationary milling power obtained from the plastograph could be the possible and stable measure for the lubricity in the actual processing.<br>In the thermal degradation process the stationary milling power and degradation time were measured from the thermal degradation curve (milling power-time curve) in the different stabilizer systems including p. h. r. variation under the controlled condition of PVC-plasticizer system and milling performance.<br>We have proposed the plastographical method as stabilizer test by mechanical shearing after having checked with the comparison with the conventional statical test method and also clarified the physical meaning of the degradation curves.
