Abstract

Measurement of resilience were made on polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and polychlorotrifluoroethylene (PCTFE) over the temperature range of -70°C-250°C. In PTFE, three dispersion regions, centered at 120°C and under -70°C, were found; and in PCTFE, two dispersions were found at 130°C and 8°C. Those dispersion regions except room temperature transition in PTFE were associated with transition region of amorphous part. The activation energy was estimated as 63.1 and 14.9k cal/mol respectively for high and low temperature transition of PTFE, and 20.7k cal/mol for low temperature transition of PCTFE. Consequently, it was deduced that high temperature transition is associated with motion release of relatively long segments, and low temperature transition of short chains as αγ transition of polyethylene.
