Recently, the fluorescent lamp of 3000K which intended to use Art Gallery Lighting has widely applied for viewing the works of art. The purpose of the lamp is to protects pictures from radiated heat when a tungsten type lamp is applied. On the other hand, photographic pictures become widely exhibit in the Art Galleries. Here is a situation that color photographic pictures are viewed together with oil painted pictures under the fluorescent illuminant stated above. As the color reproduction of the color photography is based upon metameric color matching by a mixture of the subtractive color dyes, difference of spectral power distributions between the fluorescent lamp and P 3000 illuminant cases color difference between the color photpgraph and the oil painting which were a metameric pair under P3000. In this study, we examined suitability of high color rendering 3000K fluorescent lamp for viewing of color photograph. The color photographic reproduction of the Macbeth Color Checker and its hand copy in oil painting are used in the examination. By the result of colorimetric analysis, it was confirmed that there are no significant color differences between the color photographs and the oil paintings both viewed under the fluorescent lamp and P3000.
