Description

Characteristics of gelatin were compared with those of synthetic polymers such as thioether copolymer and imidazole copolymer for silver and gold digestion tests and for photographic behaviors when they were used for preparation of silver halide emulsion grains and chemical sensitization process. The following results were obtained.<BR>(1) Gelatin could reduce silver ion and gold ion in aqueous solutions.(2) Gelatincouldyieldsilver clusters in silver halide grains during their preparation and chemical sensitization processes, whereas synthetic polymers could not.(3) Gelatin retarded the rate of sulfur sensitization and improved sensitivity to fog ratio.(4) In the case of sulfur plus gold sensitization, the higher sensitivity and higher fog density were brought about with gelatin than with thioether copolymer, owing to the fact that gelatin formed silver or gold clusters on the surface of silver halide grains during digestion for the sensitization.
