Description
<p>The Abhidharmakośabhāṣya defines that the five sense consciousnesses (五識) obtain the suppression not due to discernment (非択滅 apratisaṅkhyānirodha) when the organ of sight (眼) and the mental organ (意) are occupied with a certain visible object (色境).</p><p>This paper examines the interpretations of ‘the organ of sight’ and ‘the mental organ’ in this definition found in both Chinese and Japanese commentaries on the Abhidharmakośabhāṣya.</p>
