Abstract
<p>The transport mechanism in proton-conducting oxides, specifically Sc- and Y-doped barium zirconates, is discussed based on the results of electrochemical experiments and ab initio calculations. Proton trapping was observed for each case. The second nearest proton site was the trapping site for Y-doping, which was understood by the difference in the local hydrogen bonding state.</p>
