Abstract

Graphene and graphene oxide have a property that quenches luminescence over the entire visible light region via a fluorescence resonance energy transfer process. We have designed a biosensor that yields fluorescenes when detecting the target by modifying their surface with DNA that binds its target protein (which is called aptamer). Because our sensors are prepared on graphene and graphene oxide supported on a solid surface, it is advantageous to combine them with microfluidics. In this manuscript, we explain the detection mechanism of the sensor and address recent developments including sensor array fabrication, multi-target and multicolor detection, and enhanced sensitivity using pristine graphene platform.
