Abstract

We are preparing glass phosphor with various morphologies by using quantum dots and sol-gel-derived glass matrices. Hydrophilic CdTe, InP and hydrophobic CdSe/ZnS were used. Particularly, we will explain the preparation of small glass capsules impregnated with CdSe/ZnS. The elusion of cadmium ions from the capsules was proved to be less than 10% of that from commercial polymer coated CdSe/ZnS. The photoresistivity of glass capsules was also two orders higher than that of polymer-coated CdSe/ZnS. The application of the glass capsules to biological tagging is in progress. However, the use for lighting must be considered because of their good color rendering properties, high brightness, and durability.
