Description

In this paper, several highly sensitive sensor devices we developed for biological sensing using terahertz (THz) radiation are described. A membrane device used to hold samples of less than 1 mg in a solution enables us to analyze signature spectra. The THz spectra of nucleobase, protein, and physiologically active substances were obtained as biomolecule samples. For a DNA diagnostic chip, transmission line sensors were fabricated and a few-femtomole detection was realized. This sensor chip could also be used to evaluate the spectral characteristics of powder samples of less than 10μg without preparing pellet samples.
