Abstract

Converging evidence indicates that there are three streams of information processing in man, ie. ventral stream, ventro-dorsal stream, and dorso-dorsal stream. Dorso-dorsal stream directed to the superior parietal lobule and the intraparietal sulcus for processing location movement and shape of the object to control actions toward the object unconsciously. I describe a right-handed female patient who developed encephalopathy after receiving chemotherapy. The lesions included bilateral superior parietal lobule and right intraparietal sulcus. She exhibited various symptoms which could be related to the stream. The symptoms were visuomotor ataxia of the left visual field, orienting disability of oneʼs own body, impairment of prehension of the left hand, impairment of direction of saccadic eye movement to the left side, and impaired perception of radial optic flow with the focus of expansion located on the left visual field. Responsible lesions and features of these symptoms are discussed with reference to the functions of dorso-dorsal stream.
