Abstract

Using the air-liquid interface, it is possible to fabricate thin films of functional organic molecules via their self-assembly. The structures of resulting films are often different from those formed by vacuum evaporation, and the mechanism of the film formation is not fully understood. We fabricate films using molecules that are expected to form pores periodically. We vary the conditions such as types of solvent for the spread solution, amount of spread solution, and surface tension. We will discuss optimized conditions based on atomic force microscopy (AFM) images of the films transferred to solid substrates.
