Abstract

<p>  We studied the change in treatment of upper urinary tract calculi, and evaluated the efficacy of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) with two treatment devices (EDAP LT-02x and i-Move). We treated 1,564 patients (A group) with LT-02x and i-Move for three years from 2014, and compared them with 1,419 patients (B group) using only LT-02x for the three years before that. The stone-free rate (SFR) and effective rate (ER : ≤ 4 mm residual fragments) were 84 and 98% in the A group, respectively, with the ER being significantly more favorable than that in the B group. The A group had fewer sessions and stenting than the B group, however, 4 renal hematomas occured. The outcome of single-stone treatment between both devices was similar ; however, DS4 with i-Move was predominant.</p><p>  This study shows the importance of therapy to increase the SFR for large renal calculi and paying attention to complications.</p>
