Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out the learning conditions and nursing practices of those who participated in the “Coordinator training course for cancer patients”, and to evaluate the findings in order to enhance the content of this course. We made a descriptive statistical analysis of the survey results from 42 participants, and carried out a qualitative analysis of various open-ended questions. More than half all participants reported using what they had learned in the course in clinical settings. In addition, 3 of the participants decided to obtain new qualifications. Nine of the participants chose to continue their education by attending other seminars. According to the analysis of the open-ended questions, 5 categories for the items related to communication skills, 4 categories for the items related to utilization of the acquired knowledge and nursing skill, and 2 categories for the items related to the support of patients who desire to be cared at home were thus identified. As a result, the content of learning provided by this course was thus found to be used in clinical practice and thereby positively contributed to increase the participants’ motivation in the field of nursing practice. We need to develop this course further and provide more useful knowledge and skills for the field of oncology nursing.
