Description

Theodore Dreiser produced two collections of short fiction, Free and Other Stories (1918) and Chains (1927). Dreiser, as a short-story writer, usually has been found wanting, but critics have paid some attention to his short stories because they contain many of the attributes of his novels. In this paper, we will consider Dreiser's view of life as seen in his short fiction, referring to some stories in two collections as well as some of his later stories such as "Fine Furniture".
