Abstract

<p>This paper, through examples of the financial industry, discusses a mechanism that an incumbent allows a new entrant to access to its platform eventually inspires the entrant into the platform business after a certain period of time. To demonstrate the mechanism, the paper analyzes the following concrete process: An entrepreneurial venture entered into an EC payment service provider business, and later participated in a debit card platform business after a certain period of time. Finally, the paper considers a possibility that an application programming interface (API) facilitates the mechanism from a practical viewpoint.</p>
