Description
Presently, conventional viscometers require much time for viscosity measurements. Moreover, it is difficult to operate them because the viscometers measure viscosities in contact with the specimen liquid. Viscometers might be simplified in handling, thereby reducing the measurement time, if it were possible to measure viscosity without contact with the specimen liquid. Therefore, we developed a new noncontact type of viscometer using aerial sound and a laser displacement meter. In this study, we examined noncontact type viscometer characteristics: whether it can measure viscosity using low-frequency sound to ultrasound. As a result, it was clarified that this viscometer can provide measurements continuously and with high sensitivity using low-frequency sound of 10 Hz or so and can measure viscosities of silicone oil over a wide range from 1 to 1 million cSt (mm^2/s).
