Description

Polyurethanes(PU’s)consisting of various polycarbonate-based polyols were synthesized. The 1,6hexanediol polycarbonate-based PU exhibited high 100% modulus and low flexibility, while the 3-methyl 1,5-pentanediol polycarbonate based PU exhibited low modulus and high flexibility. The1,10-decanediol polycarbonate-based PU exhibited low modulus and high tensile strength. The stabilizationenergies by the interaction between the molecular chains were estimated with semi empiricalmolecular orbital method(PM6). The order of stabilization was as follows, 1,10-decanediol polycarbonate-based PU>1,6 hexanediol polycarbonate-based PU>3-methyl-1,5-pentanediol polycarbonatebased PU. It was considered that the tensile strength of the PU’s becomes high due to the hydrogenbonding interaction between the urethane moieties.
