Abstract
<p>日本歯周病学会では2006年に定めた歯周病分類システムの中で，「喫煙は歯周病の最大の環境リスクファクターである」という認識に基づき，リスクファクターによる歯周炎の分類の1つとして喫煙関連歯周炎を提示した。喫煙が関連する歯周炎に対する歯周治療において，患者の喫煙状況の確認，喫煙者への喫煙の健康障害についての情報提供による禁煙支援は，歯周治療の反応や予後を良好に維持するため，重要である。本論文では，喫煙に関連する国情，喫煙者の動向，禁煙支援教育の現状，歯科における禁煙支援の効果に関するエビデンスおよび歯周治療における禁煙支援の手順を概説する。</p>
