Abstract

With an ICP-mass spectrometer combined with a laser ablation sampling technique, imaging analyses of Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been conducted. To investigate the contribution of the laser-induced disintegration of the NPs, size distribution analysis was performed using an ArF excimer laser. The laser-induced disintegration could be significantly reduced by laser ablation using an ArF nanoseconds laser, suggesting that the ArF excimer laser was more suitable for the size and position analysis of the NPs. For visualization of the distribution of NPs, we have developed in-house software (iQuantNP). With the iQuantNP software, we can deduce the chemical status of the elements, whether ionic or particulate. Both the mapping and size distribution data of the NPs would become key information to understand the biological impact of the NPs.
