Description

There are numerous problems and hurdles to overcome in the developmental process leading to the practical use of new clinical treatments. In the early stages of the process, filing the patent is of much higher priority than a conference presentation or publication in an academic journal. However, finding a company to partner with is one of the most important requirements. In order to secure a supporting company, founders of the new treatment must have both the desire to develop an excellent treatment for the patients, as well as an attractive long-term strategy for the company involved. It is not possible for doctors/researchers to independently move things forward; in order to achieve success at each step in the developmental process, it is essential to organize a group of specialists.

To assist in this, support structures exist to provide consultation throughout the process, these include academic institutions, the Foundation for Biomedical Research and Innovation, and PMDA. It is important that the founders always keep their spirits high and believe that their new treatment will contribute to humanity, as well as communicate effectively with the management of the supporting company and the specialist group in order to sustain enthusiasm amongst each other for the practical realization of the new treatment.
