抄録

Central processing unit (CPU) is well known among both experts in electronics and information engineering and non-experts such as users of personal computers and smartphones. As its name implies, CPU plays a “central” role in program execution in computer systems. Therefore, understanding its architecture and behavior is essential for understanding most computer systems. With this importance of CPU in mind, we developed a set of teaching materials of student experiments on CPU, which was organized for six 90-minute classes. In this article, we describe our intention and expected educational effects as well as contents of those teaching materials. The experiment reports submitted by students confirm that they enjoy making CPU by their hands and get good understanding on CPU.
