Description
In clarifying the relationship between conceptual model and visual imagery in the presentation of an inherent sense of well-being in everyday home life, the following elements of physical environment were observed to play a role. (1) The "family" is a central factor in creating a sense of well-being in the home, and this is evident in six aspects: the way in which individuals are drawn together as family; the space or distance that is maintained between individual members of the family; the way in which the family unit is appreciated and valued by its members; the place of the individual within the family unit; the interaction in conversation and action among family members; and the transitions in time around which family life revolves. (2) The sense of well-being is influenced by the involvement and stages in the process of raising children, (i) When the parents' interaction with their children extends over a long period of time, the sense of well-being is similar to that generated in the early stages of childcare, and the conceptual imagery is of one's "place" within the home, such as kitchen, and a living room arrangement that is not limited in its use by time of day or who is interacting with who. (ii) When in the midst of raising a child, there is a sense of well-being created by a visual imagery of furniture placed in such a way as to facilitate conversation and interaction among family members. It is therefore important to design the living and dining areas of the home, the placement and use of furniture, so that these spaces will reflect in a timely fashion the interaction of family members as appropriate to the involvement and stages in childcare and to each member's place within the family.
