Abstract

This paper discusses individual disability experiences based on the stories of mild disabled persons.

This paper is divided into three parts: first, a presentation on the background of the “mild disabled”; second, a consideration of criticisms of the British social model; and finally, by way of a conclusion, a discussion of the validity of the American social model. Criticisms on the social model were mainly about impairment, but Ryoji Hoshika reexamined disability and introduced a concept called “the concentration of the disadvantage” to monitor the disadvantages that disabled persons suffer.

As an additional line of inquiry using the Hoshika’s “disadvantageous theory”, this paper considers the stories of mild disabled persons, and analyzes the disability experiences regarding gender roles.
