<p>  Carbon-coated mold for aluminum casting already has a successful track record in high-quality diecast parts. The mechanism hypothesis is considered to be hovering effect and adiabaticity due to lubricant vapor film during pouring, and heat transference due to lubricant reliquefication into carbon fibers during pressurization. However, this mechanism has not been demonstrated directly. In this study, the effect of carbon-coated mold during gravity casting on molten-aluminum-alloy hovering was investigated by indirect clearance measurement using temperature distribution measurement of molten metal and mold and direct clearance measurement using an eddy current displacement meter.</p>
