Abstract

This paper aims to develop Marimo model, which includes external forces to clarify how large-size Marimo is formed in a shallow water region. The Marimo model consists of two different phase models, Fantom and a Distinct Element Method (DEM). Fantom, an object-oriented environmental fluid dynamics model, is applied for a liquid phase, and DEM is used for a solid phase computation. To decide reflection and reduction coefficients of DEM, laboratory experiments using two different size Marimos were carried out. As a result, Marimo model showed good agreements with laboratory experiments. Additionally, collision of two Marimos was computed, which revealed the importance of the application of a multiphase flow model.
