Description

Diethyl carbonate (DEC) is a valuable chemical product for fuel additives and so on, but, it is generally produced by the phosgene method. As an alternative method, direct synthesis of DEC from CO2 and ethanol will be an environmentally friendly method, which however suffered from the severe reaction equilibrium. In this study, we found an effective synthesis method of DEC from CO2 and ethanol by using 2,2-diethoxypropane (DEP) as a dehydrating agent, CeO2 as a catalyst for carboxylation, and zeolite as a catalyst for hydration of DEP.
