Abstract

Muon Science Innovative muon beam Channel (MuSIC) at Research Center for Nuclear Physics (RCNP), Osaka University have been constructed and started muon beam generation from 2013, and now, full beam operation is available. We analyzed elemental composition of the Tempo-koban (19th century, Japan), which is covered by a copper plate, by muonic X-ray measurement. We successfully identified gold content of the Tempo-koban as 53% without removing the copper plate by only 14 min muon irradiation. The value is consistent with these reported in the previous measurement. In this paper, we report the present status of RCNP-MuSIC and an example of elemental analysis by muon using this instrument.
