Abstract
A metamorphic complex occurs in the Omuta district, northern Kyushu. Estimated pressure difference of 3 kbar between two localities corresponds to depth difference of 11 km, which is larger than the lithostatic pressure difference for the present distance. This indicates that crustal thinning took place during high-T metamorphism that was caused by regional thermal perturbation. The metamorphic conditions and chronology suggest that the metamorphic complex belongs to the Ryoke belt.
