<p>Treatment of patients with epilepsy was the mainstream of clinical psychiatry in Japan. However, in Japan today, many patients with epilepsy are being treated by doctors other than psychiatrists. Etiological data showed that the incidence and morbidity of epilepsy were highest in patients over 65 years of age. Naturally, dementia is increasingly prevalent among the elderly. Therefore, this evidence means that psychiatrists must have skills and knowledge not only for the treatment of dementia but also for epilepsy. Several cases with epilepsy require psychiatrist follow-up for ideal treatment. It is an unexpected pleasure if the current paper will be a small first step of epileptology for a psychiatrist.</p>
