Description

A 44-year-old man had a 3-month history of unexplained right leg pain. Examinations in the orthopedic and neurosurgery departments could not clarify the cause of pain. Although pharmacotherapy was initiated, no effects were observed. He confessed to his family about his suicidal ideation owing to pain. A week later, he stabbed himself in the neck and chest ; he was confirmed dead at our hospital. Fibromyalgia occurs an unknown cause, and physical and psychiatric treatments are necessary for such patients. We suggest that emergency physicians be understanding of chronic pain such as that experienced in fibromyalgia and provide standard therapy.
