Abstract

In this paper we propose a method for calculating typicality of recipes in cooking process and generating the typical process given recipes as a snipet of recipe search by a dish name. Our method assumes that recipe texts have been converted by our method into unordered trees whose leaves, intermediate nodes, and roots are foods, cooking processes, and final dish, respectively. Based on an intuition that the similarity between arbitrary two recipes is measured by the edit distance between them, we first propose a two-step algorithm for calculating the edit distance between two unordered trees, and set the costs of each edit operation that are suitable for recipes. Then, we show that the typicality of a recipe in a recipe set can be measured by the average of the edit distances to the other recipes in the set. Finally, we describe a method for generating a typical recipe for the recipes in the set.
